Overview

The PEI Bioscience Reskilling Program is a FREE initiative that empowers unemployed and underemployed Prince Edward Island residents to launch rewarding careers in the province’s growing life sciences industry.

In just 10 weeks, participants gain hands-on, industry-aligned lab skills, foundational knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and relevant industry exposure.

What You’ll Gain

  • Six weeks of blended learning – online modules + hands-on lab training at CASTL’s GMP-simulated facility in Charlottetown
  • Four weeks of on-the-job training (OJT) – practical industry experience working with a local bioscience employer
  • Eligibility for financial support – successful applicants may be eligible for a cost-of-living subsidy, including childcare and travel-related costs if applicable
  • Training in key industry areas – bioscience fundamentals, GMP/GLP, cleanroom practices, upstream/downstream processing, QC, laboratory science, math for biosciences, instrumentation, data analysis, health, and safety, and more
  • A pathway to entry-level roles such as Production Technician, Lab Technician, QC Technician, and Process Development Technician

Eligibility

Applicants must:

    • Be a PEI resident
    • Be unemployed or underemployed (working less than 25 hours per week)
    • Hold a Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent)
    • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
    • Demonstrate English proficiency
    • Be able to commit full time for 10 weeks (training + OJT)
    • Have access to reliable transportation for travel to employer sites (required for OJT)
