Purpose
The Accounting Technician supports the finance department by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with various accounting and administrative tasks. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and numeracy skills who is eager to learn and contribute to the overall CASTL team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all data entry for accounts payable including issuing purchase orders, ensuring approvals and coding are completed and taxes are assigned to the proper jurisdiction
- Reconcile monthly credit card and bank statements for all accounts to ensure purchases are entered and receipts are on file
- Reconciliation of CASTL Online Academy/Contract training
- Review and process travel and expense claims
- Assist with travel bookings
- Assist with records management including filing invoices for claims to funding partners in SharePoint
- Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing, and quarterly claims to funding partners as needed
- Support accurate reporting and documentation for provincial and federal funding agreements and audits.
- Communicating with Directors/staff and suppliers to answer questions or resolve issues
- Other duties as required
Requirements/Attributes
- Diploma or certificate in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting or a similar role.
- Experience with government funding claims and reporting requirements is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience using QuickBooks Online, Dext and MS Office Suite
- Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills that promote mutually beneficial, respectful, and professional relationships
- Demonstrates discretion and professionalism when handling confidential financial information
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, collaborative environment
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
- Excellent time management skills
- Attention to detail in all areas of work
Work Conditions
- Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 4:30 or 37.5 hours per week
- Work location will be 134 Kent Street, Charlottetown
- Contract until March 31, 2027, with possible extension
Salary and Benefits
- Salary range is between $55,000 and $60,000 annually
- RRSP/RESP contribution matching up to 3% of gross salary.
