Hands-on GMP Workforce Accelerator

This customizable training package is designed to develop and reinforce GMP-critical skills for professionals in the biomanufacturing industry. Strategically minimizing operational disruption while maximizing skill acquisition for GMP-regulated environments, our industry-informed curriculum is delivered by experienced instructors through a combination of online learning, immersive hands-on workshops, and flexible professional development microcredentials to ensure workforce readiness.

Program Structure 

Phase 1: Foundational Online Learning 

Participants begin with two self-paced CASTL Online Academy (COA) modules to build foundational knowledge: 

  • GMP Foundations: Introduces core GMP principles, SOP literacy, and regulatory readiness. 

  • Fundamentals of Effective Risk Management: Covers risk identification, prioritization, and mitigation aligned with ICH Q9. 

Completion is required before progressing to in-person training. Learners retain access to materials for 90 days post-enrollment

Phase 2: Instructor-Led Short Courses (In-Person Hands-On Training) 

Delivered at CASTL’s GMP-simulated facilities in Montreal, Vancouver, or Charlottetown, this phase includes three mandatory short courses and one participant-selected workshop. 

Core Courses

  • Cleanroom Cleaning & the 3-Bucket Method – September 2
  • GMP Investigations & Deviation Handling – September 9
  • Performing Risk Assessments in Regulated Environments – September 16

Elective Workshop (October – Full Day) 

Participants choose one of the following: 

  • Contamination Control 
  • Aseptic Techniques and Cell Culturing  
  • Bioreactor Operations 

Each session emphasizes real-world practice, regulatory alignment, and application of SOPs and tools such as CAPA, EM strategies, and bioreactor systems. 

Phase 3: Professional Development Microcredentials 

To support cross-functional excellence, participants complete microcredentials in areas such as: 

  • Communication 
  • Collaboration 
  • Leadership 

These can be completed before, during, or after the technical training. All microcredentials are validated and monitored by CASTL.

Program Completion and Certification Requirements 

To receive a CASTL BioWorks Certificate, participants must complete: 

  • COA Online Modules 
  • All in-person training sessions 
  • Approved microcredentials 

All program elements must be completed within 60 days of contract signing

Reporting Obligations 

Employers and participants must complete intake, feedback, and post-program surveys as required by CASTL and its funding partner, Palette Skills. These support program transparency and improvement.

The CASTL BioWorks training program offers Canadian biomanufacturing industry employers the opportunity to save 50% on customized CASTL training programs to upskill or cross-train their employees.

Eligibility criteria for subsidy

  • Must currently reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work. For individuals on a work permit, a minimum of one year of validity is required.
  • Minimum of a high school education
  • At least three years of work experience (can be full-time, part-time, or volunteer)
  • Being considered for cross-training, new product streams, or career advancement
