CASTL launches simulated cleanroom for biomanufacturing training

Montreal, Quebec May 7, 2025. The Canadian Alliance for Skills & Training in Life Sciences (CASTL) provides hands-on biomanufacturing training at its GMP-simulated training facilities across the country. As Canada’s biomanufacturing training partner, CASTL has successfully equipped countless professionals with world-class skills, building a highly qualified talent pool to drive the growth of Canada’s thriving biomanufacturing and life sciences sector.

To further elevate its training offerings, CASTL is expanding its Montreal facility with a state-of-the-art simulated cleanroom. Designed and built by HEPAire Products Corporation to replicate a Grade A/B (ISO 5/7) cleanroom, this environment will provide an ultra-realistic training experience in critical areas such as cleaning and disinfection, contamination control, environmental monitoring (EM), and cleanroom protocols. This initiative aligns with industry best practices and the National Skills Standard for Cleanroom Readiness recently released by BioTalent Canada, ensuring CASTL trainees are fully prepared to meet the highest regulatory and operational standards.

What makes CASTL’s cleanroom truly unique is its seamless integration with the organization’s specialized training model, ensuring an unparalleled learning experience. “At CASTL, we believe the best way to support our clients is by accelerating internal training programs through immersive, simulated environments. This approach includes the creation of customized training scenarios that mirror real-world operations while allowing participants to make mistakes and learn from them—without the risk of costly errors in an operational facility,” said Sven Ansorge, CASTL’s Director of Technical Training.

CASTL’s innovative training facilities provide a realistic setting designed to help develop the critical skills required to maintain compliance with GMP regulations and uphold the highest standards of product safety and quality. Through interactive, scenario-based learning, CASTL trainees will gain practical experience in:

  • Contamination control: Understanding and mitigating sources of contamination in cleanroom environments

  • Cleanroom cleaning procedures: Proper cleaning and disinfection techniques to ensure compliance with industry regulations

  • Personnel and material flow: Best practices in aseptic processing

  • Environmental monitoring: Hands-on experience with devices and material used for environmental monitoring

Why Train in Simulated Environments?

Our simulated training facilities provide a safe, controlled, and flexible environment where trainees can make and learn from mistakes without risking patient safety or disrupting real-world operations. This approach ensures a tailored learning experience that strengthens competencies while maintaining the highest industry standards.

“With the rapid growth of the biomanufacturing industry, training programs that simulate real-world GMP conditions are essential to equipping employees with the competencies required to accelerate the rate at which they become fully operational in a highly regulated work environment,” explained Ansorge. “Our simulated cleanroom provides an invaluable learning experience that prepares professionals for success which our clients can measure (lower number of deviations, lower number of mistakes).”
